Oh Happy Day! She travels.

Over the weekend something pretty exciting happened, Bigun has finally joined us in our new home! To get her here was some what of a process. My mom had to take her to the vet to get a health certificate saying she is healthy enough to fly. Then we had to wait for the weather to cooperate. It can’t be less than 45 degrees or more than 85 degrees in any of the cities along the route. Oh Happy Day! She travels.

The first time my mom took her to the airport it was too cold so they had to turn around and go home. Then we had to wait several days for it to warm up. Finally the weather was warm enough and my dad drove her to the airport where she flew American Airlines cargo. Her carrier was fitted with a food dish, water dish, towel for cushion (and absorbency just in case) and ‘Live Animal’ stickers on the top and side. She had one layover in Dallas and finally arrived in San Diego at 5:00 pm.

Maybe it’s just because I’m her “mom” but I think she handled it like a champ. When we picked her up at the airport she was meowing like crazy, poor thing sounded like the saddest cat in the world, but as soon as we got her in the car and started petting her with our fingers through the carrier she quieted right down. Once we arrived back at the apartment we let her out of the carrier and she was ready to explore. Of course I had to photo document the entire process so instead of typing out the details of her sniffing every square inch of the apartment I will just share some pictures!

So far she is adjusting really well. She did give me the scare of my life when I couldn’t find her for a few hours, turns out she was hiding really really well. Just when I was giving up hope and calling Jesse to cry about what a horrible mother I was to lose my cat on the first day, she jumped in my lap out of the clear blue sky, like, “Oh hey, what’s up? Boy that was a good nap.” I also think that she is still on Ohio time. By 8:00 (11 in Ohio) she meows and runs to the bedroom looking back at me like it’s time to go to bed. I am just so happy to have here, and now we can’t wait for Tiffany to join us!
